Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

Canyon country never fails to put me in a constant state of childlike awe. Grand Staircase-Escalante is a prime example with sprawling canyons.

On this trip, we made a special effort to navigate over to the Zebra slot canyon and the Tunnel slot. The Zebra, was the slimmest I’ve been in. I actually couldn’t safely continue without climbing. I turned around because the walls were super slick and there was a danger of getting wedged if I slid. Maybe next time I’ll bring some grippy shoes. Also, as usual, the water was ice cold.

Post-Zebra, we headed around the bend over to the Tunnel slot canyon. We ended up missing our turn and took an extra two or three mile hike down the large wash before heading back. When we found it, it was even better than we expected (as we just saw it as a small note in a book).

And to wrap this post up, here are a few pictures of Keya, Zag, and a lively little bug.
